[tag]Justin Blalock[/tag], the third Texas Longhorn taken in this year’s draft, was selected by the Atlanta Falcons with the 39th pick overall and the seventh pick of the second round. And I guess the Falcons tried to jump up into the first round to get Blalock, but were lucky enough for him to fall into their lap in the second round.

Blalock is versatile and durable (51 straight starts), and the Atlanta coaching staff seems pretty ecstatic to have him on the team. Let’s see if he can keep Mike Vick healthy.

Can you tell me a little more about Blalock? I am a huge UGA fan, followed by Texas (born in Corpus Christi) … and grew up a Falcons fan. My dad kept me in the loop with all things Texas, but he went on to a better place last summer. Anything you can share would be much appreciated!

Jonathan, I think Blalock is going to be a stud for the Falcons. If he was an inch or 2 taller he’d have been a top 10 pick as an offensive tackle. I think he could play either guard or tackle in the NFL, but most teams think he’s a guard which is why he fell to the 2nd round.

Blalock had the highest Wonderlic score and did the most reps on the bench press at the NFL Combine this year, so he’s the strongest and smartest player in the draft.

I’ve been a huge Blalock fan ever since he was the nations number one ranked lineman coming out of high school. There’s no doubt he will be a significant contributor to the Falcons offensive line. I’m just mad the Cowboys didn’t pick em up!

Blalock has great character, which is something the nfl is concerned with this year. He isnt a thug like the guy he’ll be blocking for. lol.
