John Chiles, QuarterbackJust a few weeks after declaring [tag]John Chiles[/tag]’ career at quarterback over for the Longhorns based on a misinterpreted Mack Brown quote, the guys over at the AAS’ blog Bevo Beat have seen the light:

Mack has never accused Bevo Beat of being slow or contemplative or even a very good judge of football talent.

So, naturally, none of that will stop us from making the following declaration: John Chiles is a quarterback.

Yes, the very first practice of August has just wrapped up out at Denius Fields, and we watched Chiles throw all of a couple dozen passes. But that was enough to see that Chiles has a natural, fluid motion that results in a terrific ball flight with zip and accuracy. We already knew he was a great athlete with exceptional speed.

Chiles’ status as a potential backup quarterback is one of the more intriguing storylines of the fall. He’s a true freshman who, they say, is eager to get on the field this season. He might decide that his best shot in 2007 lies at receiver or kick returner, but he showed plenty of quarterback skills tonight.

It’s very early but it’s great news to hear Chiles is impressing at QB. There’s no doubt he’s athletic but he was only a full time quarterback for one season in high school so there was some question if he’d be able to play the position at this level. If he’s a QB all the way hopefully he’ll be able to redshirt this season and put a little more separation between himself and Colt McCoy and Sherrod Harris.

Off the subject, I was looking at the top 20 loudest stadiums and tradition, and i realized TEXAS wasnt in it, that sucks. A&M was ranked #1 for the loudest stadium, and there were smaller stadiums than ours in the top 20. And so anyways i wanted to know why noone cheers like all these other fans @ other colleges, our fans suck compared to all the other colleges( that are in front of us). We need to come up with some other tradition thing that can get our crowd really into it, LIKE A&M.( sad to say)

Also, I think we need to get rid of the hex rally , its stupid and doesnt work, we clearly lost last year to a&m, that should tell you something. Its a dumb tradition, plus who would want to have a curse put on yourself? not me. I dont care if it is a&m or not. Some of our traditions suck.

Um… First off at the Hex Rally the point is to hex A&M not ourselves. And the Longhorns are 73-35-5 all-time versus the Aggies so I think it’s working pretty well if you ask me. Those were two strange posts.

um. if you didnt see the 35 part on that list. if the hex actually worked then we would be undefeted against them, since that dumb tradition started. And I know we arent hexing ourselves, thats a given.

And it takes GOD GIVEN TALENT TO WIN A GAME, NOT A CURSE ! WHICH IS OF THE DEVIL!

What I mean is,there is no curse that can win a football game. God blessed people with talent and they play to the best of their ability, the curse is just something that ya’ll do to think that we put one on them to feel more confident (fans not players) in our team, but its a&m were talking about, their football is just now starting to get better.

Geez Hook ‘Em, based on your posts you remind me a little of a guy that subsists on a steady diet of government cheese and lives in a van down by the river.

I dont hate anything about UT, except for the tradition part for football. I dont see why we still do that dumb hex rally if it doesnt work, and you cant say it does, or else we would be undefeted like stated above!

So because we’re ONLY winning about 68% of the time against A&M our traditions suck? Yet you think their traditions are awesome? That makes a lot of sense.

Up until this post you’ve made some pretty sane comments on this site, I’m wondering if somehow someone else is posting using your email and name.

No, im not saying all of our traditions suck, only the hex, because it doesnt work. Sorry i let you down with this comment , that is just how i feel. And it does suck a&m has better crowds( cheering ) than us. But thanks for the complement. Not better people, but better cheering.

Can’t wait to see JChiles in action. QB, WR, KR, whatever. Kid needs to be on the field, making plays.
