Who knew Texas coach [tag]Mack Brown[/tag] was also a musical genius? In a hilarious new ESPN GameDay commercial Mack strums a guitar and sings Texas Fight with the crew before Kirk Herbstreit screws it up:
Funny stuff. ESPN GameDay will be on campus this Saturday for the [tag]Texas Tech[/tag] game. The show will be on UT’s South Mall starting at 9am, so be sure to get to bed early Friday night so you can show your spirit (and of course clever signs.)
The annual Herbie Awards list was released on ESPN this week and four Texas Longhorns garner honors from the ESPN college football expert. Every year Kirk Herbstreit names his top players in several traditional and also some not so traditional categories. It’s always a fun read and Herbstreit really knows his stuff and doesn’t just pick the same 5 most hyped guys as the rest of the media would.
Here’s where the four Longhorns made his lists:
- [tag]Jordan Shipley[/tag]: #6 Top Wide Receiver
- [tag]Colt McCoy[/tag]: #2 Dual Threat Quarterback
- [tag]Sergio Kindle[/tag]: #4 Best Defensive Ends
- [tag]Alex Okafor[/tag]: #8 Top True Freshmen
I think all four guys are definitely deserving and no glaring Longhorn-related omissions. There’s definitely a few player that I think will earn their way onto this list (namely [tag]Earl Thomas[/tag] and [tag]Aaron Williams[/tag]) but there is still much to prove on the field for those guys.
Colt talks to ESPN about returning for his senior season and the upcoming 2009 season:

ESPN has several excellent articles this week on the spread offense in college football and some on it’s origins as well. Their articles feature Longhorn QB’s all over, from several generations. They think the perfect spread quarterback starts with Colt McCoy’s accurate arm and their history article gives a lot of love to future Horn [tag]Garrett Gilbert[/tag] and former Horn and current UNT coach [tag]Todd Dodge[/tag].

The 2009 college football season is quickly approaching and with it brings the annual ritual of naming the [tag]Red River Rivalry[/tag] as one of the top games of the upcoming season. This time it is ESPN blogger Bruce Feldman putting the [tag]Texas[/tag]/[tag]Oklahoma[/tag] match-up at the top of his list for “must-see” games of the year:
1. Texas vs. Oklahoma, Oct. 17
You won’t find a better QB battle this year than when Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy get together. It’s no stretch to think the Heisman, the Big 12 title and possibly a BCS title game berth will be on the line here. Oh, and there’s also the jilted feeling from the Longhorns for being passed over by the Sooners last year, a team they beat in this one in 2008. The Sooners, who have lost three of the past four, need to reassert themselves in the rivalry.
