The exact minute that the 2009 Texas Longhorns football season will start is no longer a mystery. The kick-off time for the team’s season opener against [tag]Louisiana-Monroe[/tag] has been announced. The game will be September 5th at 6pm and will air only on FSN pay-per-view. The lack of a free TV option is disappointing but not unexpected when you start every season with a cupcake.

Update: From Statesman.com (9/2/2009):

Here’s what we know so far about ordering the pay-per-view telecast of Saturday’s opener against Louisiana-Monroe:

You’ll have to wait until later this week to order it from a conventional digital cable outlet, including Time Warner. The Texas athletic department also still is waiting for more channel information from DirecTV and Dish Network. For AT&T U-Verse customers, the viewing channel is 103. Cost is $40.

There’s been issues in the past, but they definitely carry some FSN pay-per-view games. I think you’ll probably want to call and confirm ASAP so you can start finding alternative viewing locations if they don’t carry it.

I am having difficulty finding out how to order the game from Verizon. Called Friday and the CS rep was absolutely NO help. Anyone have any ideas about how to order the game from Verizon?

The game is NOT part of ESPN Gameplan. It’s an FSN game, which would obviously not be on ESPN’s option. It’s on FSN PPV which DirecTV will almost definitely carry. Unfortunately, their customer service reps are in general clueless and don’t even know if the game is available until it shows up at the last minute.

I know the Texas-La. Monroe game is part of ESPN GamePlan on DirecTv, but does anyone know whether the game is available as a single game PPV event on DirecTv?

OKay. FYI -DirecTV.com lists this game as part of ESPN GamePlan, and their customer service reps are confirming.

I called DirecTV and the customer rep said it should be on a single PPV channel. The only thing is that the channel will not be dedicated to the event until late in the week. I was told to start checking on Thurs., Sept. 3. You can order thru your tv. unless you do not have a phone line, then order through the computer. if you call a customer rep to place the order, you will be charged a fee!

@Tracy S: In Austin it’ll be on TWC channel 437. Other Time Warner markets will also have the game but should call customer service to order the game.
