The Aggies aren’t officially in need of a head coach yet but that hasn’t stopped the crazy train for getting going full steam ahead. Coaching candidates from across the country including Tommy Tuberville, Mike Sherman, and Paul Bear Bryant have all reportedly begged to have the job and silently accepted the position.

The latest hot name is the one and only Steve Spurrier, but Aggie fans aren’t sure he’s good enough for them. Sports Illustrated’s Stewart Mandel probably spit coffee all over his keyboard when he read this email from Aggie Matt from Corpus:

I am sure you are tired of hearing questions about the Texas A&M coaching situation, but I heard Steve Spurrier mentioned as a possible candidate. Do you think the Aggies will actually consider him, and if so, how do you think he would compete against Texas, Oklahoma and Texas Tech in recruiting?
–Matt, Corpus Christi, Texas

Mandel’s response is a classic:

At some point, I’d like to take a visit to whatever planet it is Aggies fans come from. Would A&M “consider” Spurrier? Sure. They’ve already set their sights on Tommy Tuberville, and Dennis Erickson is apparently on their “Plan B” list. Why not throw Spurrier into the mix as long as we’re playing Monopoly?

Now, will Spurrier “consider” the Aggies? Sure… for about as long as it takes to read this sentence.

The guy specifically chose South Carolina because at this point in his career, he wanted a low-pressure environment where the expectations are manageable. Texas A&M — where they expect the coach to compete at the same level as Texas, despite an all-time record of 35-73-5 against the ‘Horns — does not fit that description.

Nice to see we’re not the only ones who can have a good chuckle at the Aggies’ expense. They may not be from another planet but they sure can drink the Kool-Aid in College Station. I love the note about their expectations and hopes to be as good as Texas, and of course pointing out their horrid all-time record against the Horns.

Hilarious.

I am simply ashamed to be a longhorn fan after yesterday’s loss. Our coaching staff is simply horrible and fans need to stop drinking the Mack Brown “koolade.” Our coaching stafff is one of the worst in the country as far as I am concerned. The offensive and defensive coordinators have to go now!

Hey AJ, I think we all feel your pain. Mack Brown needs has the ability to put togather good teams, and he has proven time and again. I agree that we do need some changes, particularly offensive coordinator. Keep your head man, we are one of the few teams in the nation that will have a legitimate chance every season to win the be the national champs!

What you meant to say is Texas is the most over rated FB team consistently in the top 25 and that was proven one more time last Friday.

I guess it’s a good thing for me then that you don’t get to set rankings. What’s a TX “900” anyway? Answer: The combined weight of your mother and girlfriend.

Haha! Ya’ll might have bragging rights for this one year, but we can say that we are DOMINATING THE SERIES , and will forever dominate it. It does suck to lose to that shitty team, especially when they dont care about their season, all they care about is beating us, UT. The faggies still suck!!!!!!!!!! Go Horns!!!

TW, what Aggie game? I didn’t see nothing. Where are the 73 articles on all the A&M losses in the series? 🙂

Seriously though, I was out of town till Sunday night and busy Monday so by the time I had a chance to sit down and write something there wasn’t much of a point.

Heres an article for atm. atm sucks, the refs. dont know what a late hit is ( on Brandon Foster) or a hit to the face( mccoy) and somehow it is ok to call 2 sideline warnings when you only get one. atm saws our horns off and shoves them up their ass. Ya’ll think by saying t.u. that it offends us, no, but it sure does make ya’ll look stupid for thinking it does. And of course we STILL lead the series. Hook’em Horns

all i can say is that i am happy this football season is over with. when teams like missouri and kansas reach #1 and #2 in the season, you know the world has come to an end. fotunately they both choked when reaching those points and proved they do not deserve to be there. they both will slip back into mediocrity, and have like 7-5 seasons for another year or two. now the dream has come true for all of the bcs haters. it just proves that a playoff system needs to be put in place. if that happened there would be no dispute or argument. because of all the conference champions all are in the top 10, and if you throw a couple of at large bids, you get georgia and hawaii in there, and that ends the whole argument.

also, does anyone else give mack about 2 to 3 season left at ut if oklahoma keeps playing for the big 12 and winning it instead of texas. i know it pisses me off to see oklahoma playing for the big 12 6 times in 8 years, and winning 5 of them. all i know is i really believe is mack needs to win the big 12 in one of the next 2 seasons or ut might have a new head coach.

Yea I agree, he is a great recruiter though, we jus tneed an all around COACH.

I definitely agree with the recruiting part. Since he arrived in Austin, his recruiting classes finish no worse than the top 5, but he seems to not be getting the best out of his talent. Next season will tell the tale. No more excuses, the o-line will be veterans, and Colt will be done with the “sophomore curse.” And god please help us with the defense.

I love the University of Oklahoma

Quit whining Texas fans. The University of Oklahoma football team are the 2007 Big 12 Champions. That is now 5 Big 12 championships with 5 different quarterbacks. Too bad Mack Brown can’t do that. Just face it Texas fans, Oklahoma has more tradition than Texas. Yeah, Texas fans will always get off by saying that “Texas has leads the series with a record of 57-40-5” but when you look at the overall picture, Oklahoma has the better history. It must suck to see the state north of you all with a population less than 4 million continue to rack in Big 12 championships. Texas sucks and it really showed after this season. Some other interesting facts:

Colt McCoy, the native Texan had 29 touchdown passes as a freshman

Sam Bradford, the native Oklahoman has had 34 touchdown passes as a freshman and counting.

    Gig’Em Aggies! BOOMER SOONER!

Whats funny is without Texas there would be no OU. If you havent noitced our state is where ya’ll get all of ya’lls players from. So you saying Texas sucks whether your referring to the state or college, is saying your team sucks too. We all know oklahoma is a bad football state and doesnt produce anyone good, thats why ou comes to where? TEXAS!

  23. reply to  #23

    chris

Sam Bradford, the native american, played in more games than Colt McCoy. “Oklahoma has the better history..?” I guess I will have to take a “spirit journey” with Sam Bradford to figure that one out. Until then, I will just have to judge the better football program by the heads-up record.
