TCU defensive star Tommy Blake returns to team after week at home. Strange situation.
Colt McCoy has the team’s full backing. No quarterback controversy this year, the Longhorns are his team.
A week after being on the cover of Sports Illustrated, former Texas running back commitment Emmanuel Moody is now apparently a former USC Trojan. He rushed for 459 yards on only 79 carries last year as a true freshman but an ankle injury cut his season short and a hamstring injury kept him out of spring practice. Moody will be transferring closer to home because according to his uncle, USC was “just not the best fit for him.”
Moody is reportedly looking at three schools in the area, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and possibly Texas. Oklahoma State is probably the favorite here. The Cowboys have the most inviting depth chart at tailback and is close to home and a little out of the limelight.
Texas on the other hand has several good young backs (Vondrell McGee is reportedly looking great in practice) but is a school Emmanuel already felt comfortable enough with to commit to once. Whether Mack Brown and the Texas staff wants him is another question. He already turned his back on the program once but obviously they know a lot more about the situation and the kid than we do. He’s a Texas kid with a lot of talent, if Mack wants him then I’ll be fired up to have him on the team.
CNNSI has Jamaal Charles at #9 in their top 20 running backs. He’s ahead of some very good backs.
Senior wide receiver [tag]Limas Sweed[/tag] suffered a possibly serious wrist injury today in practice. Officially called a wrist sprain, Texas athletic trainer Kenny Boyd stated that Sweed was expected to make a full recovery.
Boyd’s comment is uncomfortably vague. It could be a simple sprain and Limas could be back by week one against Arkansas State, or it could be a broken wrist that Limas will completely recover from in 6 – 8 weeks. The wide receiver position is one of the deepest on the team but the loss to Sweed would be a serious blow to the offense. He was reportedly looking really good in practice and I was expecting a huge season out of him.
We’ll have more information on Sweed’s injury as it becomes available.
Update: Suzanne Halliburton of the AAS is reporting the Sweed will be ready by week one against Arkansas State. Unless he’s absolutely 100% than he should sit and get ready for TCU (9/16/2007)
Vince Young trying to evolve from thrower to passer. I think the late Eric Moulds signing may be the Titans only good move of the offseason.
Ever since the tragic death of Korey Stringer a few years ago due to overheating, there has been a big emphasis on the health of players when practicing in hot temperatures. And in Texas, where heat indexes can get into the 120s, it is even more important to watch the players.
To combat heat related issues, the Texas Longhorns have now started giving their athletes a little white pill. No, not the same pill Barry Bonds takes, but actually a tiny little electronic device that players can ingest. This allows trainers to get internal body temperature readings to insure players are not overheating. Not every player receives this pill, only the heavier players such as lineman and incoming freshman whom the trainers do not have a good read on yet.
This seems like a pretty smart idea, though it does seem a little big brotherish. It is kind of creepy to know that something inside your body is electronic and is sending information outside of your body. Seems like the next step is to inject RFID into the players arm so that they can keep track of their every movement. Hey, maybe that isn’t a bad idea. Might keep some of the players out of trouble.
Listen carefully during the technical difficutlies for some NSFW fun:
I’m not sure exactly why but I found that incredibly funny. I used to kind of like Lee Corso but his act has really beat me down the last few years and his incident on The Ticket made him look like a gigantic jerk.
The expletive just comes out of nowhere with no warning. I can’t stop watching and laughing, and laughing and watching. The apology at the end from Karl Ravech Chris Fowler is a nice touch, it totally makes up for the the way they violated my virgin ears.
I did actually like Desmond Howard Rocket Ismail better that way. He seemed more intelligent than when you can actually hear what he’s saying. Maybe this year I’ll watch all of College GameDay on mute.

Ryan Perrilloux pulled from LSU media day by coaches. They were probably worried he’d commit another crime in front of them.
Seattle Sonics likely moving to Oklahoma City according to team owner. Bad news for KD but good for us fans who can now go see him play.
