Garrett Gilbert commits to the HornsGarrett Gilbert made it official this afternoon, he’s going to play quarterback for the Texas Longhorns. From Lake Travis’ state of the art indoor practice facility (that place makes most college programs jealous) announced he would be staying close to home and committed to Mack Brown and the Longhorns.

Excerpts from the press conference (courtesy of Orangebloods):

“I am here to announce my commitment to play football at The University of Texas. I’m very excited about this opportunity. I feel very blessed and I’m looking forward to a great opportunity to get a great education at Texas and also the chance to play football at one of the best universities in the nation.”

“It’s been my dream to be a Longhorn ever since I was a little kid, ever since I moved here to Austin. It’s just a real blessing and as soon as I got the offer, I knew that that’s where I wanted to go.”

Welcome to the family Garrett, can’t wait to see you in burnt orange.

This is cool that we got a 5 star quaterback already, but I am still hoping that we get Russel Shepard.

Yeah, hopefully we get both. We need two QB’s in this class, it would be awesome to get two of elite caliber like Gilbert and Shepard.

I think they both knew all along that Texas would take two and that they both might end up here, so hopefully Shep is excited about the chance to compete.
