DJ Augustin

Kevin Durant and the Texas Longhorns had a rough day today against the Villanova Wildcats. With their lowest scoring first half of the season (only 23 points!), Texas just looked sluggish and was probably still a little tired from the triple over-time game against Oklahoma State.

Things weren’t much better in the second half as Kevin Durant only managed to score 1 point. And it wasn’t like he was having a totally off shooting night, it was more that he couldn’t get the ball. Maybe he just didn’t have the energy, or maybe ‘Nova’s defense was just too good, but Durant never realy had a chance to put the ball in the basket.

D.J. Augustin on the other hand looked very impressive, scoring 25 points. He seems to be able to get to the basket whenever he feels like it and is showing some good range. Now all we need to do is get him synced up with Durant and we should be good to go.

The Horns have 4 days rest until they play at Nebraska, and hopefully they will take this time to get some rest. Nebraska has started off slow in Big 12 conference play and may be just what the Longhorns need to get back on track.

Rick Barnes liked the effort against OSU, but he’s using the loss to motivate them for Villanova.

I recently had a chat with one of my friends over in China, and out of the blue he brought up Kevin Durant. It’s amazing that the Kevin Durant hype has reached its way to China. Durant is obviously a special player and it is a shame we may only get to see him for one season in a Longhorns’ uniform. Anyway, here is the chat:

Friend:
hey. have you seen this kevin durant play?
just read about him yesterday.

Matt:
of course

Friend:
sounds like a monster.
is he 6-9 or 6-11?

Matt:
he might be the best college player ever
6-9 i think, but with a 7-2 wing span

Friend:
damn.
that’s obscene.

Matt:
yeah
for sure

Friend:
read a pretty good article by bill simmons mostly about Suns but he brought up durant.
seen games in person?

Matt:
not yet
i will probably catch one game though
probably his only season

Friend:
ah. hype about him sounds believable.

The Longhorns and Cowboys faced off last night in one of the best college basketball games of the season. Three overtimes, last second heroics, amazing Hail Mary shots, and more in the great atmosphere of Gallagher-Iba Arena. ESPN has really been hyping the game (and Kevin Durant) on all their shows last night and today.

If you missed it (shame on you), check out the highlights from College GameNight below:

Don’t you just love ESPN’s behind-the-old-guy’s-head camera angle? Really makes you feel like you’re there at the arena.

If you were busy watching American Idol, ESPN has deemed the game an “Instant Classic” and will be re-airing it Thursday on ESPN Classic at 4 p.m. Set your TiVo’s.

Kevin Durant

Man, that sure was a tough way for the game to end last night. In TRIPLE OVERTIME, to lose by a prayer that Mario Boggan sloppily threw up was disappointing. Texas played tough all game and Kevin Durant showed why he is the best player in the land. And just in case you were curious, Boggan was shooting an impressive 16% from the 3-point line all season.

It was interesting to see Rick Barnes smiling so much after the game. It sure looks like he is having fun out there doesn’t it? Although, I guess I would be too if I had someone with the talent of Kevin Durant on my team.

And on another note, this Conner Atchley guy is starting to get on my nerves. Yeah he hit that big three in overtime, but that lay-up he blew was horrendous and some of the defense he plays is mind-boggling bad. What’s the deal?
