We were honored to find out yesterday that we had won the Brady Quinn Award, given out to the best looking college football blog. Well, we figured, why stop there? Why not try to win the award for the best looking college basketball blog (not sure if it exists though)?
So we have been burning the midnight oil to come up with what we think is a kick-ass basketball theme for Bevo Sports. Honestly, so far I am really digging the new look. I think I might even like it better than the football edition.
So let me know what you think. Good, bad, or whatever. Want to see what the football one looks like in all its glory? Check it out here.

Ok, well obviously they didn’t play each other head-to-head, but with tonights billing on ESPN being Greg Oden vs. [tag]Kevin Durant[/tag], I don’t think Durant left too much doubt who the better player is.
Durant put up a ridiculous 37 points and 23 rebounds, the first ever 30/20 game in Texas history. What is even more amazing, is he outscored the whole Texas Tech team by himself in the second half.
Honestly, it’s tough to put into words how special of a player Durant it. I think we all just need to sit back and enjoy the ride, and pray for some miracle that will bring him back for another year.
We have a tough schedule ahead, especially the game at A&M. That game will be on Monday at 8pm on ESPN. Hook ’em.
Check out video of ESPN’s college basketball experts discussing Durant and Oden on SportsCenter after the jump.
The Texas football spring schedule is set and Longhorn fans will have several opportunities to see the team in action. The team’s first two practices and the “Spring Jamboree” will be open to the public.
Fans can attend workouts on February 23rd and 24th if they want an early chance to see the 2007 Texas Longhrorns in person. The annual spring game will take place on March 31st at noon, probably on Fox Sports.
More details on spring practice coming soon. Keep up with the spring schedule and more on the Texas Longhorn Sports Calendar.
Who should be number one? Greg Oden vs. Kevin Durant.
Former UT student Colton Pitonyak is convicted of the murder of Jennifer Cave. 55 years isn’t enough.
Great article from Gregg Doyel on just a couple of reasons why people hate Duke.
Richard Justice is either joking or smoking something, he thinks A&M has passed Texas in football.
What is the Brady Quinn Award you ask? It’s an award for the best looking college football blog in the whole entire world.
We felt honored just to be nominated, so winning is definitely a cool thing. I just hope people don’t consider us as over-rated as Brady Quinn and Notre Dame. That would suck.
So thanks to everyone out there who voted for us, and we promise to continue to add some exciting new features here at Bevo Sports.
It looked like the Longhorns had their recruiting class wrapped up back in June, but there have been some unfortunate changes the last thirty days that have made things a little more interesting. This weekend the Longhorns hosted several recruits and apparently made a big impression on them. And there’s two more athletes coming in next weekend as well.
Defensive tackle [tag]Tyrell Higgins[/tag] and safety [tag]Christian Scott[/tag] were in town over the weekend on official visits. Higgins made it official as soon as he could and gave Mack Brown his verbal commitment before he left town. Scott left Austin uncommitted but the Longhorns are thought to be the leader for the services of the talented defensive back from Dallas. LSU and Oklahoma are the other teams in the mix.
Two players who were committed to Big 12 rivals until recently will be in town this coming weekend. Tight end [tag]Ian Harris[/tag] (pictured) was a Missouri commitment going into the weekend but today he’s a Texas Longhorn. Zach Pianalto’s decommit to North Carolina opened up a spot for another tight end in this class and Harris jumped on Texas’ offer as quick as he could. Wide receiver/cornerback [tag]James Kirkendoll[/tag] was an Oklahoma Sooner yesterday but now he’s set to visit the good guys. It would be a big surprise if he’s not a Longhorn soon.
Higgins and Harris are solid prospects who help round out Texas’ top three recruiting class. Scott and Kirkendoll would be huge additions who as an added bonus could be stolen from their rivals. We’ll have more news on those two when it happens and plenty more recruiting opinions as National Signing Day approaches on February 7th.
Update
Orangebloods is reporting that Kirkendoll is “nearly ready” and will officially commit to Texas this weekend. He is now listed in his profile as a “soft verbal.” Great news for Texas fans and bad news for the Okies. (1/24/2007)
