The Texas baseball team is going for an important sweep of the Aggies right now (1pm on Sunday) live on Fox Sports Southwest. Last regular season game that could impact Big 12 tourney seeding as well as regional pairings.
Baseball beats #9 Texas A&M 5-2 to open series. Good game by Jordan Danks and good outing by pitcher Chance Ruffin.
Now that’s what I call Texas baseball. Team is playing much more fundamental baseball and could be back on track.
NCAA football coaches warm to early signing period. Allowing recruits to sign early would allow them to refocus on school once they’ve made decision.
WFAA ABC in Dallas reports improprieties with Darrell Arthur’s academics while at Dallas South Oak Cliff High School. SOC already had to forfeit 2006 state title.
Wednesday’s storms hit UT athletic facilities. The softball field, Disch-Falk, and Moncrief-Neuhaus sustained minor damages.
Ricky Williams finally ready for return to football. Says he wishes he was on Cedric’s boat to be a calming influence.
Former Horn and current Cleveland Cavalier point guard [tag]Daniel Gibson[/tag] separated his shoulder against the Celtics Wednesday night. After an MRI on the injury the team estimated that he’d be out for at least one to two weeks, and that means he’s likely out of action for the rest of the playoffs. The Cavs are down three games to two against Boston and losing “Boobie” isn’t going to help them stay alive and win game 6.
Gibson’s minutes this postseason are down from last year due to the team’s addition of Delonte West midseason and Gibson missing time this season with other injuries. He averaged about 30 minutes and 12 points in the first round against Washington but against Boston his minutes are down close to 21/game and his points per game average is down to 5.6. He had a solid game in the clincher versus the Wiz and another good one Monday when he scored 14 while adding 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
It doesn’t look like the type of injury that will linger so hopefully Daniel recovers quickly. If the Cavs pulls the upset and keep rolling there’s a chance he could be back for the NBA Finals if they make it that far.
The Austin American-Statesman has a great photo gallery up of [tag]Ricky Williams[/tag] and [tag]Earl Campbell[/tag] at a local golf tournament Wednesday. It’s great to see the two Texas legends together. Check out the gallery for a few more photos.
Orangebloods.com is reporting that big time defensive tackle recruit Calvin Howell out of San Antonio has committed to the Texas Longhorns. Howell is the 18th rated (and rising) overall recruit in the state and one of Texas’ top defensive targets at a position of great need. He is the 18th player to join the Horns’ 2009 recruiting class.
Howell has been leaning towards the Longhorns for a while now but wanted to take his time and make an informed decision. In the last two months he returned to Austin multiple times while also making unofficial visits to Oklahoma and Texas Tech. This Monday he came back to Austin with his mother and after getting back and discussing it as a family he finally decided to pull the trigger. His mom called up Mack Brown Wednesday and informed him that her son would be a Longhorn.
This is a huge pickup for Texas. If they can now reel in 5-star Jamarkus McFarland they’ll have the best pair of defensive tackle commits in the country and two interior lineman who could be dominating the Big 12 together in a few years.
Congrats Calvin and welcome to the Longhorn family!
