The new SI magazine for August 21, 2006 will be sporting regional Special Edition covers, with 6 teams who they think will be battling it out for #1. Below are the cover images (click to enlarge photo), along with who is on each cover.

I have put them in order of who I think are the Top 6. I almost put Ohio State #1, except apparently they have someone who thinks they can drink 30-40 beers per day. My theory is that it was probably O’Doul’s.

Texas - SI Cover

Ohio State - SI Cover

USC - SI Cover

  • Justin Blalock
  • Jamaal Charles
  • Kasey Studdard

Ohio State Cover

  • T.J. Downing

  • John David Booty
  • Ryan Kalil

Notre Dame - SI Cover

West Virginia- SI Cover

LSU - SI Cover

Notre Dame Cover

It looks like ESPN is doing something similar, but is only using 3 different covers.

Great stuff. I love to see the Longhorns on the cover but I miss the days of their number one team being on the cover and everyone getting pissed about it. Maybe this way, there’s no real SI cover jinx.

It’s totally whack that Florida State didn’t have a cover this year. WVU is no way the power house of the south.

    BOO-YAH.

Brooke. that might have to do with WVU being a top 5 ranked team and FSU is outside the top 10.

Yeah right WV is way better than FSU, FSU has a bad offense

Yeah, 3 total rushing yards combined between Miami and FSU is pretty bad.

    Hey BROOKE,
Just ask Georgia Fans about WVU’s power in the south. Can you say 2006 SEC Sugar Bowl Defeat? With 9 WVU offensive starters returning from that team the power is their. But please be sure and mistake WVU’s abilities it really is helpful having those big half time leads.
