Our Thoughts

Brian – Well Virginia Tech did the BCS and Longhorn fans a favor Saturday and didn’t bother showing up. Marcus Vick fumbled away their national title hopes while the Miami offense (with several starters on the sideline) ran it right down their throats. UCLA also went down in a fiery blaze (as expected) to a below average Arizona team. I guess if you’re going to blow an undefeated season, you might as well do it in style. Those losses combined with Ohio State, Texas Tech, and wins Colorado solidified Texas’ ranking in the BCS and in my poll.

Alabama may be the worst #4 ranked, 9 and 0 SEC team in history. Their offense is embarassing, they haven’t scored an offensive touchdown in the last sixteen quarters of SEC play. I was tempted to drop them to fifth behind LSU, but that will settle itself on the field this weekend.

Matt – Like I have been saying, everything will work itself out in the end, and this weekend went a long way to prove that you shouldn’t be so concerned about the BCS in October. If more of the voters had actually seen Virginia Tech’s (unimpressive) play, this wouldn’t have been as much of an issue.

Now I have Texas Tech all the way up to #7, and I still truly believe that they are better than all the 1 loss teams below them. Texas looked as dominant as ever, and the game actually ended up pretty boring to watch. Southern Cal’s offense looked impressive in the first half, and luckily their subs gave up a couple of touchdowns so that Stanford covered the spread and gave me the win. And like they were saying on TV about UCLA, if you are going to go down, why not go down in flames.

This weekend will probably be the weekend for Alabama to lose, so then we can stop all that crazy talk about the SEC being screwed out of another BCS title game. Bottomline, the SEC isn’t as good as everyone thinks they are. They play most of their games in conference, and whenever they venture out against other good teams, they get spanked like Tennessee did.

According to a San Antonio Express-News source, Vince Young has “emphatically” informed the UT coaching staff he plans to return for his senior season.

Everything I’m hearing from everyone who might know has said pretty much the same thing. Vince and his family want him to get his degree and I believe Vince feels a sense of loyalty to Mack Brown and the team. I’m sure he is well aware of the difficult situation the team would be left in if he was to enter the NFL draft after this season, and he also probably knows that if he wants to be an NFL quarterback he needs another year in college. Though he’s finally getting the national love he deserves, there are still a lot of anonymous NFL “scouts” who have doubts about his future at QB.

His stock is sky high right now as an NFL player, but I think there are enough people/things telling him to come back for one more year that Texas fans will be very happy when he announces his decision in January.

In what is shaping up to be a monumental recruiting class, the Texas basketball team can now add top national point guard DJ Augustin to the list of commits. The 5’11” Augustin out of Houston, displaced from New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina, is 2006’s sixth commit and chose Texas over LSU.

Rick Barnes needs a raise and a packed Erwin Center.
