Is Kevin Durant the national player of the year? His season stacks up with the all-time greats. (via)
Durant lights up Mizzou for 34 more points & helps the Horns start Big 12 play with 2 wins.
Burnt Orange Nation thinks Kevin Durant is the best ever and I’m starting to believe it too.
Mavs & Rockets games means no Horns basketball against Mizzou for fans in DFW & Houston areas.
Texas knocked off UT – Arlington tonight in Austin by 32 points in a game that was still close at halftime. It was an eight point game at the half, but the Horns offense kicked in and they were able to pull away and win by a final score of Texas 84, UTA 52.
[tag]Kevin Durant[/tag] had another great night as he chipped in his usual 21 points and 15 rebounds. The kid is just amazingly solid and consistent, he’s averaging a double-double so far in his freshman season. If he continue this kind of production through Big 12 conference play he’ll be getting freshman POY honors and some All-American mentions as well. [tag]AJ Abrams[/tag] knocked down three more 3-pointers and [tag]DJ Augustin[/tag] continued his great work at the point. Those three players can lead this team a long way with just a little help on defense and the boards from the interior guys.
Great to see big [tag]Dexter Pittman[/tag]’s line for the night: 10 minutes, 4 rebounds, and 9 points. The kid is only going to get better this season and could be a force next year.
The Longhorns begin conference play Saturday at 3pm against Colorado.
18 points including game clinch free throws in final seconds.
Just a reminder (if you don’t check the BevoSports Longhorn calendar daily) that the men’s basketball team will be facing off against the Michigan State Spartans on ESPN2 tonight at 8pm Central. Since my cable sucks and I don’t get ESPNU it’ll be my first chance to see the Horns in action this season. Should be interesting to see what Kevin Durant, Damion James, and DJ Augustin can do against their stiffest competition so far.

Talk about getting things off to a good start for newcomers Kevin Durant, DJ Augustin, and Damion Jones. Texas dominated (more like annihilated) Alcorn St 103-44, with 20 points coming from Freshman blue chip Kevin Durant.
This is a good sign as I was quite nervous coming into this season. Texas lost all 5 starters from last year’s squad, including Lamarcus Aldridge, PJ Tucker, and Daniel Gibson. It is tough to fill that much loss of talent, but it looks like Durant, Jones, and Augustin may be the new trio. Can you imagine how good Texas would be with Durant, Tucker, and Aldridge on the front-line. That would be sick.
One funny note about this game is that Texas was actually down 9-1 at one point in the game. That means they went on a 101-35 run. Crazy.
Texas debuts at number 19.
