Ricky Williams will apply for reinstatement to the NFL on October 1st when his suspension is over. No clue when he’ll be cleared to return.

I can’t tell you how tired I am of reporting news like this. But yes, you guessed it, yet another Longhorn was arrested last night, charged with two felony counts of obstruction and tampering with evidence. Don’t have any details on what exactly this could be, but it sure doesn’t sound good.
This makes it the 6th Longhorn arrested since June, officially making Texas the new Miami. Seriously though, how hard can it be to stay out of trouble, especially when you know what has been going on in the program. The last thing I want to do is make a new category for this type of stuff, but I think that is exactly what I might have to do. We will have more details once they come in.

Well it wasn’t pretty but the Longhorns survived today against [tag]Central Florida[/tag] with a 35 – 32 victory. The Longhorns haven’t been much fun to watch this season but it sure as hell is better to be 3 – 0 than be Notre Dame or UCLA. Check out highlights from the game below…
We’ll have more thoughts on the game tomorrow.
Another solid Saturday of games to watch. There’s a couple of good SEC matchups, which means a return of CBS’s great coverage and great high def picture. Texas plays in the afternoon and there’s another big chance for the Big 12 to prove itself tonight as Nebraska faces off against USC. Don’t leave your couch.
Illinois at Syracuse – 11 am on ESPNU. If former Texas defensive coordinator Greg Robinson’s Syracuse team doesn’t win today he’ll likely start the year 0 – 4 and won’t make it till the end of the season.
Iowa at Iowa State – 12:30 pm on Versus. Speaking of former Texas defensive coordinators… Gene Chizik is just in his first year but after losing to Northern Iowa last week the Cyclones are just hoping they’re not laughed off the field today against the Hawkeyes.
(22) Tennessee at (5) Florida – 2:30 pm on CBS. Good SEC matchup today in HD on CBS. I’m not completely sold on Florida yet this year but they should be able to handle Tennessee in the Swamp.
The Longhorns finally played good football in the second half last week against TCU. The defense was tough all game long and held things together until Colt McCoy and the offense got rolling. This week against a solid [tag]Central Florida[/tag] team Texas will have to continue to improve and get ready for some tough games ahead. Texas fans won’t be satisfied with anything other than a blowout.
Here’s the keys to victory for today’s game:
1. Play four good quarters.
In two games this season the Longhorns have played two good quarters, today at UCF the Horns need to put together four solid quarters. The team will have to play more consistently on both sides of the football if they are going to beat the tougher teams on the schedule. The Black Golden Knights aren’t chumps, if the team takes half the game off they’re certainly capable of pulling off the upset at home.
2. Continue to run the ball out of multiple formations.
During the TCU game Texas (finally) came out and mixed a little I-formation and single back in with the shotgun offense we’ve relied on since Vince Young was destroying defenses. The change in philosophy paid off with a more effective and consistent running attack against a solid TCU defense. If the Horns can mix a straight ahead running attack and play action passing with the wide open shotgun offense, Colt McCoy and his teammates will be tough to stop.
3. Find a right tackle.
[tag]Chris Hall[/tag] performed well at right tackle against TCU but he’s better suited to play inside and does not look like the long term answer at the position. Hall will get the start today but if [tag]Adam Ulatoski[/tag] is going to be out for an extended time it might be worth giving one of the younger linemen a chance to earn the spot. We could see true freshmen tackles Kyle Hix and Tray Allen on the field against UCF today.

After three forgettable seasons, UT’s Nate Jones is finally showing his talent. Jones will make it tough for Pittman & Shipley to get reps.
Greg Oden had microfracture surgery on his knee and will miss the entire season. Microfracture surgery is a very scary procedure, Blazer fans should be crossing their fingers he’s back next year.
Oden seems like a great kid, but this is what happens when you decide to pass on [tag]Kevin Durant[/tag] to draft a 50-year-old man. This decision may be Bowie 2.0 for Portland.
Chris Simms on his injury status and Texas’ trip to Central Florida. He’s expecting a big showing of Longhorns at the game. (via)
Adam Ulatoski doubtful for Central Florida. Seems like good news to me, I thought for sure he’d be “out” for several weeks.
Senior safety/wide reciever [tag]Tyrell Gatewood[/tag] was arrested again last night on reckless driving and two counts of misdemeanor possession of a dangerous drug. A “dangerous drug” usually refers to prescription medication that he did not have a legal prescription for. The range of drugs that includes is huge and could be something silly or very, very serious.

I’ll try to withhold judgment until we learn more about the charges, but this is not Gatewood’s first run-in with the law and it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s gone before the weekend. With the other recent off field incidents, his history, and Mack Brown’s new tougher stance on these issues the punishment will likely be swift and severe.
We’ll have more on Gatewood’s status as details are released.
Update: Gatewood has been suspended indefinitely by Mack Brown.
