Texas Rangers to Honor Longhorns on Opening DayIn an exclusive interview earlier today on SportsRadio 1310 The Ticket, Texas Rangers’ owner Tom Hicks announced that on opening day the Texas Rangers will honor the 2005 National Champion Texas Longhorns, with [tag]Mack Brown[/tag] and [tag]Darrell Royal[/tag] throwing out the first pitches.

This comes on the heels of the Rangers going after Roger Clemens, a former Texas Longhorn himself. I wonder if this is just one more tactic in trying to lure the indecisive Roger Clemens to the Rangers?

Definitely a little cruel, some Cal students pretending to be a UCLA co-ed on instant messenger get USC point guard Gabe Pruitt’s phone number and set up a date for after the game. The best part may be that they reveal the prank to him while he’s at the free throw line:

When USC guard Gabe Pruitt took his first trip to the free throw line early in the game, the Cal student section hollered in unison: “VIC-TOR-IA, VIC-TOR-IA,” and then yelled out a telephone number. Pruitt glanced back at the crowd in horror and bewilderment before clanking his free throws.

It turns out that a couple of mischeivous little bastards from the Cal student section had been IM’ing with Pruitt all week under the identity of “Victoria,” a fictional UCLA hottie, and Pruitt was eagerly anticipating a date with this nubile co-ed back in Westwood after the game. In preparation for the date, Pruitt had handed over his digits, which the Cal student section recited back to him in unison.

Ouch.

I can’t wait for the reverse pass back to Colt McCoy for the TD at the end of the movie.

The Horns play in Erwin Center in College Hoops 2k6And it looks really average.

2K Sports is releasing the game March 14th just in time for March Madness and a couple of weeks before most people forget about college basketball. It essentially looks like a slightly better version of the Xbox game they released in November. They’ve slowed the gameplay down a little to more accurately recreate the college game, but many problems remain. Basketball simulations in general are a big step below the more arcade style games such as NBA Street.

Sports games have definitely been the most disappointing thing about the Xbox 360 lineup. Average ports like this one from 2K Sports and quickly thrown together, half-finished games like Madden from EA Sports typify what the genre has had to offer so far. Hopefully the football games that come out this Summer and Fall for the 360 and PlayStation 3 will be a true “next-gen” experience with more development time.

Let’s hope LaMarcus Aldridge & the real Longhorns look better this weekend in the Big 12 Tournament than they do in this game.

Would be nice if the Horns would step it up against teams other than the Owls.
