He may have gone undrafted but former Texas defensive tackle [tag]Derek Lokey[/tag] is quickly making a name for himself in Kansas City. From the Orangebloods’ message boards copied from a Chiefs’ board:
DT Derek Lokey – If you listened to our most recent Podcast with Chuck Cook, you know why he and the defensive coaches are high on Lokey. He’s already in the mix as one of the team’s four best interior defensive linemen. Ron Edwards and Glenn Dorsey are the starters, so that means Lokey will line up next to Tank Tyler. After watching him today, I can’t believe he wasn’t drafted.
I’m not surprised. Lokey was one of my favorite Longhorns the last few years. He wasn’t devoid of talent, but he sure did an incredible job with fewer measurables than some of his teammates. He may never be an NFL star but I think he could be headed to a long and successful career.
Ricky Williams video from MB-TF.com. I’m rooting so hard for him, hope he keeps it together for a few seasons.
Vince Young focused on winning, being role model. Claims he thought about retirement after rookie season.
Cedric Benson rejoins Bears. He’s confident his name will be cleared & disappointed in those who rushed to judgement.
Ricky Williams discusses life in the public eye. You can’t always be yourself, you have to be a role model.
The Minnesota Vikings traded with the Kansas City Chiefs for top sack artist Jared Allen but they weren’t willing to part with former Longhorn [tag]Brian Robison[/tag] to do it.
The Chiefs asked for Robison as part of the deal but Vikings preferred to give up another high draft pick as part of the trade rather than part with Robison. Last year Robison had 4.5 sacks in limited snaps and this season he’ll be the team’s third defensive end and should be on the field more frequently.
Read more details from the Viking Buzz blog* below:
In case you didn’t catch this in Adam Caplan’s Minicamp Insider 1.0* recently, he writes “A league source familiar with the situation notes the Kansas City Chiefs asked for DE Brian Robison to be included in the trade for DE Jared Allen,” Caplan reported. “Minnesota is pretty high on the former University of Texas defensive lineman and told the Chiefs they wouldn’t give him up. Robison is expected to be the first end off the bench this season for the Vikings.”
This little tidbit is a testament to the upside potential the Vikings see in Robison. While most people probably pigeon-hole Robison as a promising pass-rush specialist, be assured the Vikings see more in him that just one-trick-pony potential…
It speaks for itself that the Chiefs tried to get Robison included in the Jared Allen trade. It also says plenty the Vikings were instead willing to up their ante in the form of another high draft choice instead.
Pretty exciting to see that both teams are so high on Robison. Hopefully he can have a big season and keep moving up the depth chart to become an every down player.
Ricky Williams finally ready for return to football. Says he wishes he was on Cedric’s boat to be a calming influence.
Former Horn and current Cleveland Cavalier point guard [tag]Daniel Gibson[/tag] separated his shoulder against the Celtics Wednesday night. After an MRI on the injury the team estimated that he’d be out for at least one to two weeks, and that means he’s likely out of action for the rest of the playoffs. The Cavs are down three games to two against Boston and losing “Boobie” isn’t going to help them stay alive and win game 6.
Gibson’s minutes this postseason are down from last year due to the team’s addition of Delonte West midseason and Gibson missing time this season with other injuries. He averaged about 30 minutes and 12 points in the first round against Washington but against Boston his minutes are down close to 21/game and his points per game average is down to 5.6. He had a solid game in the clincher versus the Wiz and another good one Monday when he scored 14 while adding 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
It doesn’t look like the type of injury that will linger so hopefully Daniel recovers quickly. If the Cavs pulls the upset and keep rolling there’s a chance he could be back for the NBA Finals if they make it that far.
The Austin American-Statesman has a great photo gallery up of [tag]Ricky Williams[/tag] and [tag]Earl Campbell[/tag] at a local golf tournament Wednesday. It’s great to see the two Texas legends together. Check out the gallery for a few more photos.
Kevin Durant headlines NBA’s all-rookie team, but one moron didn’t put him on their team. Probably a Hawks writer.
