After several big hits this weekend left him with tingling in his extremities, [tag]Priest Holmes[/tag] has been forced to retire from the Kansas City Chiefs and the NFL. Holmes had played in four games this season after missing two years with a neck injury, but the recurrence of symptoms Sunday made him rethink his comeback.

Video from today’s press conference is below:

Sad to see him have to hang them up after working so hard to come back, but I’m glad Priest is walking away before it’s too late. Neck and brain injuries are nothing to mess around with and his quality of life is much more important than football.

Priest came back again and again and was always the underdog, but he had a heck of an NFL career and for a while was one of the top running backs in the league. He represented the University of Texas well and I enjoyed watching him play for the Horns and for the Chiefs. Thanks for the memories Priest.

Priest Holmes’ career in jeopardy again. Another neck injury looks like it will end his comeback attempt and his career. Update.

Vince Young is ABC’s tenth greatest college football player ever. Definitely would have been higher if he returned for senior season.

Kevin Durant drains buzzer beating 3 in double OT for the win. Great long range shot with people in his face.

Aaron Ross is a big-time player in big city. Making a few mistakes but looks like Giants expect a lot out of him.

Fantasy love for Selvin Young. Could he keep the starting job even after Travis Henry comes back?

After an 18 month absence from the NFL, word out of ESPN is that the NFL has decided to reinstate [tag]Ricky Williams[/tag] from his suspension. No word yet on whether or not the Miami Dolphins will welcome him back, they have two weeks to make that decision.

Video below with a few more details:

More thoughts on Ricky and which NFL team he might end up with later tonight.

Update

It looks like Ricky could very well end up back with the Dolphins. His agent is saying Miami would welcome him back and possible teammate Joey Porter sounds like he’ll take any player who can help the Fins get their first win of the season.

Ricky has a serious issue with social anxiety disorder that it sounds like he finally got the treatment he needed during the last six months. He’s made his mistakes but he’s never hurt anyone and he certainly deserves a chance to earn a living and play football again. He showed in 2005 that he can still play, and whether it’s with the Dolphins or another team I think he can make a contribution this season.

I love watching Ricky run and no matter what he’ll always be one of my favorite Longhorns. I’ll be watching his return closely and rooting him on to prove all his doubters wrong on and off the field.
