Texas head coach [tag]Mack Brown[/tag] was on the ESPN show Rome is Burning yesterday for a lengthy interview about the upcoming season. Not really any new information that anyone who reads this site or follows the Horns wouldn’t know but it’s always impressive to see Mack in an interview. He always comes across as such a likable and easy going person, it’s easy to see why he’s had such excellent success recruiting.

Video game website IGN.com reviews NCAA Football 09 and thinks this year’s version is pretty impressive. The game continues to increase the overall college atmosphere in the game every year and this season the additions of online 60-year dynasties with your friends/enemies makes the game definitely worth a purchase.

Watch the video below:

Go buy the game from Amazon.com and then add HookEm722 to your Xbox Live friends list if you want to take me on. We’ll be trying to organize an online dynasty on the site soon, stay tuned.

Texas 2009 commit [tag]Chris Whaley[/tag] is one of the top recruits in the state and top running backs in the country. With 4.5 speed at 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds (and still growing), Whaley possesses a rare combination of speed and power for a high school back. He’ll be a great complement to the speed backs (Vondrell McGee and Fozzy Whittaker) when he first gets on campus and could be Texas’ next big time running back.

Check out his highlights below:

Can’t wait till he gets onto the Forty Acres.

Great race by Texas senior [tag]Leo Manzano[/tag] in last weekend’s NCAA Track and Field Championships. He leads the 1500m race wire to wire and has an incredible kick at the end to pull away easily. I’m not a big track guy but watching him run the last lap of that race got me fired up as a Longhorn fan.

Manzano is an incredible athlete. He also won a national title in the 1500m in 2005. Congrats Leo on the big win and good luck in your professional career.

After testing the NBA draft waters Longhorns guard [tag]AJ Abrams[/tag] has made the decision to return to Texas for his senior season. AJ made the announcement at a press conference today, the last day he could withdraw his name and retain his eligibility.

He had a few workouts with NBA teams but was not invited to the league’s pre-draft camp and it was clear he would not be drafted. Returning to Texas will allow AJ to get his degree while also improving his chances of playing professional basketball. He’s not going to be the team’s starting point guard but he’ll likely have more ball handling responsibilities and at least a chance to prove he’s more than just a spot up shooter.

Watch video of an excerpt from AJ’s press conference and comments from Kevin Durant and [tag]Rick Barnes[/tag] below:

Welcome back AJ.

Another Topps photo shoot video interview, this time with former Texas wide receiver [tag]Limas Sweed[/tag]. I think Limas is going to be a steal for Pittsburgh in the middle of the second round. I don’t know how many passes he’ll catch in his rookie season but it won’t be long before he’s a favorite of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Watch the interview below:

Limas is pretty comfortable in front of the camera and seems like a nice, intelligent young man. I love the fact that he’s learning the “geetar” and that he thinks an Audioslave song from 2002 is kinda an older song you might not know.

Topps held a photo shoot recently to get shots of all the NFL rookies in their new uniforms. Former Longhorn running back [tag]Jamaal Charles[/tag] was one of the players on hand. It’s the first time I’ve seen Jamaal in a Kansas City Chiefs jersey.

They’ve posted a ton of interviews from the event on YouTube, many of which are disappointingly uninteresting. This age group just didn’t collect cards like mine did, plus football cards were never as popular as baseball.

Watch the interview with JC below:

Jamaal still isn’t exactly the world’s best public speaker but he’s gotten much more comfortable in interviews than when he first came to Texas.

Those can’t be regular sized shoulder pads by the way. He looks tiny.

Temple running back Lache Seastrunk (it’s pronounced “Lake”) is still just a sophomore in high school but he’s starting to blow up the Internet thanks to his highlight videos. He’s blazing fast and spends about half the video juking people out of their jock straps. Pretty incredible stuff from a kid who probably isn’t 16 yet.

Check out the videos from YouTube below:

Lache Seastrunk – #15 (Class of 2010 Prospect) RB-ATH from YouTube.com

And now another one below from TexasPreps.net:

Lache Seastrunk Highlights from YouTube.com

The videos remind me of former Florida prepster Noel Devine, hopefully without the off field stuff and multiple children.

For those who are geographically challenged, Temple is just an hour away from Austin. With most of the 2009 class already wrapped up, Mack and Company have to make him a top recruiting priority now. I’d love to see some highlights of Lache wearing the burnt orange in a couple of years.

Update: Just got a text from Orangebloods that Lache would be in Austin this Sunday for a one-day camp. Fantastic news. (10:21pm)
