Ramonce Taylor getting pumped before last year's Baylor gameMack Brown announced yesterday that running back [tag]Ramonce Taylor[/tag] would be excused from spring workouts so he can focus on academics. He’s not ineligible, but it sounds like he was headed down that path and Brown is trying to do what’s best for Taylor and the team now. “I felt like he needed to focus on his academic work,” Brown said. “He can now go work with [academic adviser] Brian Davis and his staff. We want him to have full focus on that, and we want him to understand it’s important for us that he do his work.”

Spring practice isn’t too important for most veterans, but if Taylor was hoping to earn his share of carries in a crowded backfield he’ll share with Jamaal Charles and Selvin Young in the Fall he needs to prove he could be an every down back. He needed to work on running more North/South and becoming a true running back instead of just a ridiculously talented athlete. Missing the spring won’t just effect Ramonce, RB/DE Henry Melton will be seeing a lot more time on the offensive side of the ball in Taylor’s absence. I was really looking forward to seeing what the physical freak could do chasing down quarterbacks instead of getting three carries a game buried in the running back depth chart.

Definitely a disappointment as Longhorn fans are expecing a lot out of Taylor next season and this will be a set back for him on the field. Hopefully the time off will allow him to get his studies in order so that he’s eligible in the fall.

Brad Buckman and Kenton Paulino play their final home game at 3pm today on CBS.

Positive about Vince’s future, but still doesn’t get that it’s 50 questions in 12 minutes.

When Brad Buckman plays well, Texas is going to be tough to beat.

PJ Tucker attempts a shot against TAMUThe Longhorns fell to Texas A&M last night in Aggieland. It was an absolutely brutal basketball game to watch. Both teams played absolutely terrible and put on a clinic on how to play sloppy offense. Turnovers galore and Coach Billy Gillespie’s annoyingly effective defensive strategy turned this one into a snoozer. When you have lesser talent, it’s an incredibly smart strategy to play tough, physical defense to hold the score down and hope to be close enough to make a late run at the end of games.

The game came down to the final minutes and Texas made one more mistake than they could afford. After a timeout with 15 seconds to go in the game and 10 seconds left on the shot clock, Rick Barnes called an isolation play to give P.J. Tucker a chance to make a play and Tucker apparently lost track of time remaining. He dribbled out the shot clock and didn’t get off a shot. Then with less than 4 seconds to go, UT guard Daniel Gibson gave the Aggie’s Acie Law got off a clean 3 pointer that he drained for the win.

Definitely a disappointing performance coming off the big win over Kansas, but not the end of the world for the basketball team. They already probably weren’t getting a #1 seed for the NCAA Tournament and still should be at worst a #3 unless they lose to Oklahoma this weekend and lose early in the Big 12 Tourney. The team definitely has to play more consistently if they plan on making any kind of run in March.

Note to Aggie fans: You’re not supposed to rush the court when you a beat a team you claim is your rival. And with your non-conference schedule you’re probably still not making it into the NCAA Tournament.

As if deciding to attend Texas A&M wasn’t bad enough, Aggie forward Chris Walker and his friends decided to film themselves singing “Total Eclipse of the Heart” in their dorm room.

If they weren’t shirtless, it would only be really ghey but three shirtless dudes and puka shell necklaces put it over the top. Nice work guys but you have a long way to go to match these guys.

Update: And don’t worry, apparently Aggies can also rap. Hilarious.

Update 2: Holy crap, I should have clicked “More from this user” before. There’s a total of six videos from Chris and his friends including “Till I Collapse” and “Love Lifts Us Up Where We Belong.” Their version of “What a Wonderful World” looks like it took way too much prep time but does prove they own shirts. I really think this all would’ve been okay if they had just worn shirts.
