Freshman defensive tackle [tag]Andre Jones[/tag] has turned himself in after an arrest warrant was issued for a felony aggravated robbery charge. The charge stems from a July 27th robbery involving former teammate [tag]Robert Joseph[/tag], who was kicked off the team last month. According to the Austin PD, Joseph and Jones entered an apartment in east Austin last Friday. Joseph waved his gun at residents, including a 14 year old boy. Jones never flashed his gun, but made threats to indicate he was carrying a weapon.
Things are getting out of control this summer with 5 arrests in the last 2 months. I think it is clear that Mack Brown needs to take some serious action. Obviously Andre Jones should be kicked off the team, but Mack needs to find another way to prevent things like this from happening in the future. Recruiting efforts need to change. Discipline policies need to be more severe. Something needs to happen.
One thing I don’t understand about all of this is how some of these players can be so dumb. Do they not watch ESPN? Do they not see Pacman Jones losing millions of dollars because of his actions. Do they not see Michael Vick throwing away $100 million? I just can’t understand what makes you think you can pull a gun on people, steal their possessions, and then expect to still be able to play football. Frustrated just doesn’t express how I feel right now.
Well, since this was downloaded so many times last year, I figured I would go ahead and make this year’s complete Excel spreadsheet schedule available. Again, each conference is broken down into separate tabs, including a simple matrix showing who is playing who. Enjoy.

Ready to see the best 8 year old running back of all-time? This kid is just sick. His name is Cody Paul and he plays for the Los Alamitos Griffins in Pop Warner.
I am thinking Texas needs to start recruiting this kid now. And as crazy as it sounds, I read somewhere that he is already a silent commit at USC.
Note: Music not safe for work.
The NCAA has ruled that the Oklahoma Sooners must “vacate” all of their wins during the 2005 season, including their bowl win against Oregon in the Holiday Bowl. Not that it really matters all that much, they only won 8 games anyway.
The funny part about this is the fact that the NCAA thinks they actually hurt the Sooners, when all they did was extend their probation, cut their scholarships by two, and forfeit a season the Sooners didn’t even care about. Way to be tough NCAA.
Seattle definitely had the easiest job in the NBA draft, just pick either Kevin Durant or Greg Oden, whoever is available. But then they go off and do some craziness and trade Ray Allen to the Boston Celtics for Jeff Green (#5 pick), Delonte West, and Wally “My Foot Hurts” Szczerbiak.
So now they have 3 players who play almost exactly the same position, Kevin Durant, Rashard Lewis, and Jeff Green. I know this seems like the big trend in the NBA, having a bunch of 6’9ish swing-men, but trading one of the best pure shooters in the league for players you have no need for just doesn’t make sense to me.
And is just me or should you be able to get a little more for someone like Ray Allen? I would think some other team in the league could have offered up a better deal.
I was just thinking the other day, with the NBA Draft coming up on Thursday I figured I would be seeing more Kevin Durant commercials. Thankfully EA Sports has granted my wish. Starting today, [tag]Kevin Durant[/tag] (along with Gilbert Arenas) will be featured in 3 different commercials for EA Sports’ upcoming NBA Live ’08 video game.
The first commercial will feature Arena giving Durant dunk tips when Durant clanks one off the rim. “No, no, no! Who’s teaching you this stuff? Left stick, right stick, towards the basket, then the square button when you get close. Wait on the square!”
Here is the second commercial:
And the third commercial will feature Durant stealing the ball from Arenas and going up for an uncontested lay-up. When Arenas tells Durant he hasn’t taught him that yet, Durant replies, “I have my own go-to moves now.”
Can’t wait to see the others.
[tag]Justin Blalock[/tag], the third Texas Longhorn taken in this year’s draft, was selected by the Atlanta Falcons with the 39th pick overall and the seventh pick of the second round. And I guess the Falcons tried to jump up into the first round to get Blalock, but were lucky enough for him to fall into their lap in the second round.
Blalock is versatile and durable (51 straight starts), and the Atlanta coaching staff seems pretty ecstatic to have him on the team. Let’s see if he can keep Mike Vick healthy.
I kept hearing some serious rumors of this over the last two days, but I think I was hoping that if I ignored them they would just go away. Well, they haven’t. [tag]Kevin Durant[/tag] is indeed turning pro.
So congratulations to Kevin Durant. What he accomplished this year by sweeping every major award as a freshman is just amazing, and something we may never see again. As much as I would want Kevin Durant to return, how can you blame someone for not passing up all of that money?
Now we get to have fun seeing where he will end up in the NBA. The Celtics are already throwing games so that they can get Durant. Going to the Hawks or Grizzlies seems to be a career death sentence. Maybe Phoenix could jump up from the 4 spot (via Atlanta) to get him? Now that would be fun to watch.
There will be a press conference today at 4pm on campus in Austin announcing his decision. Feel free to send me pictures if anyone attends.
Would you go pro?

Is it just me, or does it feel really good to see Duke lose? Now, I don’t want to brag or anything, but I did call this upset in my bracket.
The bottom-line was that VCU was just too physical for Duke (as you can see by the picture). The VCU press has to be one of the best in the country, and it absolutely ate Duke alive. I don’t really see VCU putting up much of a fight against Pitt, but it is always good to see the underdog come through in the tourney.
Interestingly enough, the last time that Duke lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament was 1996, which also happens to be the last time they were a #6 seed.
