I thought he’d be back at Texas when he dropped to the 7th round, but Jordan Danks is motivated to join his brother with White Sox.

I’m at the mall with my wife and had a Big 12-related observation. Here in North Dallas in the big sporting goods store (Dick’s) there’s a ton of Longhorns gear and some [tag]Oklahoma[/tag] stuff, but there’s very little A&M apparel at all. There’s a whole wall of Texas and OU stuff with two Aggie t-shirts in the corner. There was more [tag]Texas Tech[/tag] and LSU stuff than that.

It’s even worse at the sports memorabilia store. Some very cool and very expensive Vince Young and Kevin Durant stuff and some Ricky Williams and Earl Campbell autographed prints and mini-helmets. The Sooners are represented solely by Adrian Peterson and the Aggies have absolutely nothing. Think about it, what Aggie memorabilia can even A&M fans collect? Six year old Dat Nguyen Cowboys jerseys?

Dallas is three hours away from Austin, College Station, and Norman yet there’s absolutely no Texas A&M presence here. Just thought that was an interesting real world observation about the state of the three programs.

It got scary with two outs in the bottom of the night but yesterday’s starter [tag]Chance Ruffin[/tag] came in and got the final out for the 4-3 victory over St. John’s. [tag]Austin Wood[/tag] threw a fantastic 8 2/3rds innings but gave up two runs and put two more runners on before being relieved. After an intentional walk Ruffin got the final out on a bases loaded fielder’s choice.

Texas now must win two in a row against [tag]Rice[/tag] to move onto the Super Regional. Texas will start left-hander [tag]Riley Boening[/tag] against the Owls tonight at 6pm. You can listen to the game online at 1300 the Zone or watch live streaming video at riceowls.cstv.com.

Cole Green misplays ball against St. John's[tag]Kenn Kasparek[/tag] pitched six strong innings but the offense couldn’t get going and Texas dropped the opening game of regional play to St. John’s 2-1. The team now must win three in the row to advance to the Super Regionals.

The game was tied going into the top of the 9th inning when relief pitcher [tag]Cole Green[/tag] mishandled a ball hit back to the mound. He recovered on the play but first baseman [tag]Brandon Belt[/tag] couldn’t handle the throw and the St. John’s batter reached safely. Three batters later he scored the winning run as Texas failed to turn a inning ending double play.

Head coach [tag]Augie Garrido[/tag] looked crushed by the loss in the post game press conference. I get the feeling that if this team gets swept out of the tournament he might call it a career.

The team takes on Sam Houston St. in an elimination game today at 2pm.

Baseball team poses with Big 12 tournament trophyThe Texas baseball team finished the job Sunday with a 15-7 win over [tag]Kansas State[/tag] in the Big 12 Baseball Championships. The victory gives the Longhorns their third Big 12 tournament championship, second only to Nebraska since the conference was formed.

The wind was blowing out and the ball was jumping off the Texas bats all game long. Just like on Saturday against OU the team jumped out to an early lead and then had to hold on tight as things got crazy in the middle innings. Texas had a 9-1 lead but gave up 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th to make things interesting. The Horns didn’t panic and answered back right away by putting 3 up on the scoreboard in the 6th. They added 3 more in the 8th to make things comfortable.

The team will find out where they’re going and who they’re playing Monday morning when the NCAA announces tournament pairings.

Horns score in bottom of 9th to beat SoonersThe Texas baseball team blew a big lead against the Sooners in the 7th inning but rallied back in the bottom of the 9th to win it. The win makes the Horns 2-1 in the Big 12 Baseball Championships and they’re now headed to the title game thanks to a Texas A&M win over Missouri.

Once up by 5 runs, the Longhorns had to score 3 in the last frame to win 11-10. Shortstop [tag]David Hernandez[/tag] singled up the middle to score [tag]Brandon Belt[/tag] and win the game. Texas starter [tag]Kenn Kasparek[/tag] pitched well before losing it in the 7th. Pitcher [tag]Keith Shinaberry[/tag] got one out in the 9th but was credited with the win.

The team will play for the Big 12 title Sunday against either Oklahoma State or Kansas State. The game will be at 1pm on FSN Southwest.
