Close game? Blowout? The records don’t always matter when the Texas Longhorns take on the Texas A&M Aggies. This is their bowl game, the closest they’ll ever be to an important game. For the Horns it’s another step on the road to a national title shot. Can the Horns take care of business and not let emotion and momentum keep the Ags around? Brian – Why are so many people predicting this game is going to be remotely close? This is a Texas A&M team that got blown out of the water by [tag]Kansas State[/tag] and embarrassed by a shell of an [tag]Oklahoma[/tag] team. They gave up 30 and barely beat Utah State. The Aggie offense has had it’s moments this season and quarterback Jarrod Johnson can chuck it a little (though he often has no control of where it’s headed), but the vaunted Wrecking Crew defense is one of the nation’s best. Tonight in front of a national Turkey Day audience the Horns are going to roll up big points and [tag]Colt McCoy[/tag] is going to put up more big numbers for his Heisman campaign. Texas wins big. Ross – Why I am nervous about the A&M game? Let’s take a look at the last few regular season games for this Longhorn team. Here are the winning margins of the last five games: 31 points, 33 pts, 32 pts, 27 pts, and last week was 34 points. Why should I be worried, the Longhorns have been putting teams away since the Sooners. OK, let’s look at the last five A&M contests.

2004 26-13 Win / 2005 40-29 Win / 2006 7-12 Loss / 2007 30-38 Loss / 2008 49 – 9 Win

The record is 3-2 that past five years and Colt McCoy has a losing record against the Aggies. The 2005 undefeated team went in to College Station (same momentum) and won a much closer game than the score indicated. I would like to think that we would win by the same 30 point average that we have racked up the last few weeks, but this is a rivalry game so I expect this to be a nail biter. Texas 28, Texas A&M 17

McCoy Heating Up: Over the past five games, Colt McCoy has completed 130-of-169 passes (76.9%) for 1,487 yards (297.4 ypg) and 12 TDs (2 INT).

On a Roll: McCoy has led the Longhorns to victory in 24 of the last 25 games (.960). That record includes two bowl-game victories and eight wins over ranked opponents. In those games, McCoy has gone 639-of-856 (74.6%) for 7,057 yards (282.3 ypg) and 58 TDs (18 INTs) for a 162.1 passer rating, while rushing for 838 yards and 13 TDs. He is averaging 315.8 yards of total offense and nearly three TDs per game. McCoy has thrown for at least 250 yards in 18 of the 25 games, at least two TDs in 19 and completed at least 70 percent of his passes in 19. He also has posted a rushing and passing TD in 10 of the games.

I’ll Second That: McCoy joined Vince Young as just the second QB in Longhorn history to post back-to-back 11 win seasons. He is seeking to become the first Texas QB ever to register consecutive 12 victory seasons.

Yes Longhorn fans, it is that time of year again. We will all huddle up around TV’s, radios or file into the stands at College Station to watch our beloved Longhorns play the Aggies. Once again the mighty Horns come into this game with everything on the line and the Aggies have nothing to lose. The Longhorns are having a dream season where we are in the hunt for another National Championship. While the Aggies have been hot and cold and are just hoping to make a bowl game at this point of the season, so here we go again!

While in recent history of this rivalry has leaned the longhorns way, there have been those games where Texas comes in needing a win to achieve their goals. And the unthinkable happens a dreaded loss. [tag]Colt McCoy[/tag] has led the longhorns down the undefeated path this year, and with the win last week, he is now the winningest quarterback in college football history. So what better feather to put in McCoy’s cap, than to beat A&M, win the Big XII, and win a National Championship? Once we get our fill of turkey, let’s hold our horns up high and root loud and proud. This years game looks to be a good one, but I expect the Longhorns to walk away late and win big.

Pregame WTH DKR Memorial?! On a chilly night with the largest crowd in UT history to watch a football game (101,357) the stadium crew went a little overboard. The customary smoke machine that the team enters the playing field was a little concerning. I was waiting for some of the Horns to run into the goal post upon exiting with way too much smoke bellowing out of the tunnel.

1st Quarter (5:54) WTH Fisher?! I enjoy the enthusiasm from a weatherman, but this is ridiculous. KTBC Scott Fisher opened up his forecast on the Godzillatron with the words “Howdy, howdy, howdy…” Sorry Scott but please know your audience. We play against the Aggies later this week.

2nd Quarter (6:50) WTH Mangino?! KU Jacob Branstetter was told to onside kick by the “Big Man” early on in a close game. This was the wrong message to send to the Jayhawks that they needed this trick play to stay with the Horns. The resulting play was unsuccessful and the Horns took over to extend their lead with a 49 yard field goal by [tag]Hunter Lawrence[/tag] (17-6).

3rd Quarter (8:03) WTH McCoy?! One play. One throw. One awesome touchdown. Great throw by [tag]Colt McCoy[/tag] and an awesome grab by a streaking [tag]Malcolm Williams[/tag] for a 68 yard completion that completely knocked the Jayhawks out of the game. WTH Shout out to Colt McCoy for becoming the winningest quarterback in college football (43 wins). We hope you extend this record by a few more games!

4th Quarter (11:29) WTH UT Kickoff coverage?! OK we have one major concern that popped up in this game. The kickoff coverage was abysmal when KU Dezmon Briscoe ran back the kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown. UT Justin Tucker has the leg but he does not always make it to the end zone. The coverage team is at fault for this return. WTH Shout out to UT redshirt freshman [tag]Jamison Berryhill[/tag] (5-11, 225) who routinely ran down the field to be a wedge buster. Love seeing a player give up his body for his team.

WTH Shout Out?! Thanks Longhorn seniors for a tremendous season, especially Colt McCoy and [tag]Jordan Shipley[/tag] for delivering a Big XII South Championship.

It’s the last home game for a group of Texas seniors that could go down as the best to play for the Longhorns. The redshirt seniors have national title rings from the 2005 season but are looking to keep winning so they can earn one of their own. Quarterback [tag]Colt McCoy[/tag] will become the winningest college QB ever and sixth year senior [tag]Jordan Shipley[/tag] actually has been on campus for an incredible 66 wins.

Will the seniors get their 43rd win today? Our predictions are below:

Brian – The Texas Longhorns are playing their best football of the year and the Kansas Jayhawks are playing their worst. When turmoil hits a team they either rally together or fall apart, with the allegations this week against Mark Mangino I’m guessing it’s the latter. Horns will win big with another strong defensive showing and one last special performance between senior buds McCoy and [tag]Jordan Shipley[/tag] who will connect for two scores or more. Ross – I think I have one fat finger on the pulse of this game against Kansas. I think the Longhorns will send the Jayhawks back to their alcoholic… OK, that is a little too much. The turmoil surrounding the Jayhawks may galvanize the team to rally around their embattled coach. But that would be a concern if this game was in Kansas. 1st Half WTH Fox Sports?! Please talk to the Texas coaches before you broadcast another game. The television truck kept asking for replays or studio updates that caused us to miss many of the Longhorns up tempo offensive plays. Heck, they even missed on (1st Qt. 9:30) Tre’ Newton’s 45 yard touchdown run for a game update. I guess replays are more important than live plays.

Both calls were horrible since Baylor was trying to stay motivated against the second ranked team in the country down by 21 points. Oh well, Chykie had a great game by leading the team in tackles with 8 and had a bone jarring sack. WTH Shout Out to [tag]Lamarr Houston[/tag] who had 2 sacks and was constantly in the Baylor backfield.

3rd Quarter WTH Beebe?! Big XII Commissioner Dan Beebe was brought in for filler time in the booth during the 2nd half of the game. Dan thought the current BCS system needed a little tweaking with adding the strength of schedule, but shot down the idea of a playoff or a plus 1 system to determine the championship. Maybe we need to add the conference commissioners with the university presidents who do not get it when nearly everyone wants some sort of playoff.

Next Day WTH Monroe?! I know that we have all done some stupid stuff. I hope that D.J. Monroe’s lack of poor judgment (DWI arrest) does not end a great start to a college career. I’m all for second chances to those who deserve it.

WTH Shout Out?! Thanks to the fans at Bucky’s Big Red Tailgate Company who hosted this Longhorn at the Wisconsin Badger game against Michigan. You guys truly know how to throw a tailgate party and take care of a Texas fan in Madison.

It wasn’t all good news for the Texas football team over the weekend. Kick returner and running back [tag]DJ Monroe[/tag] was arrested early Sunday morning in Hays County and charged with driving while intoxicated. Monroe, a redshirt freshman from Angleton, is only 20 years old.

On Sunday evening Texas head coach [tag]Mack Brown[/tag] announced that Monroe had been suspended indefinitely and released the following statement on the arrest:

“We’re disappointed anytime one of our players is accused of wrongdoing. We’re aware of the situation involving DJ Monroe. We have talked to DJ and his family and have decided to suspend him indefinitely, pending the completion of the legal process.”

Depending on the circumstances, previous DWI arrests have led to suspensions ranging from one to three games. My guess is Monroe will get the stiffer penalty and be forced to sit out through the end of the regular season and Big 12 Championship game. He would then be able to return for the team’s bowl appearance.

We all make mistakes and while DWI is a very serious offense, the Texas fanbase should be patient to wait for the full details before condemning Monroe. He will almost assuredly get a second chance and hopefully he will learn from this mistake and grow from it. From a team standpoint, they’ll put [tag]Jordan Shipley[/tag] back on kickoffs now so there should not be any drop off in that department. Hopefully, for a team hitting on all cylinders and with an eye towards a national title something like this does not become a distraction.
