It doesn’t get much better than listening to some OU sucks songs during the week leading up to the [tag]Oklahoma[/tag] game. And Chance McClain from Sports Radio 610 down in Houston has hooked us up with some nice OU suckage songs from his band Apollo XVIII.
Some background on Apollo XVIII. Chance McClain and Frank Bullington comprise the band and both went to UT for a total of about 5 semesters. Chance went on an academic scholarship in the Plan II program and failed out spectacularly. Frank had equal success. But both of them left the 40 acres with our horns up, forever bleeding burnt orange. If you want to hear more of their stuff, check them out on MySpace.
So here are the songs, None Suck Better and OU Sucks. Both equally great. The lyrics to None Suck Better are available after the jump.

I had always thought some of the Aggie traditions were crazy, but I really have no words to explain what is going on here. Someone told me it is some thing where they bunch together real close in a square and try to protect their dog. Apparently the corp members crowd together at critical times during a game and squeeze their testicles in order to feel the pain of the players and inspire the team. (thanks Mick) Sounds Aggie-rific to me. Maybe they just knew they were going to lose.
And what is the deal with the guy in the front? Is he friends with Aggie basketball legend Chris Walker maybe?

Someone should let Houston Chronicle writer John Lopez know he should at least try a little to get some facts right. He doesn’t have to be perfect, just come closer than he did in this article where he urges Aggies to judge Dennis Franchione based on what he does on the field.
Lopez compares Fran’s situation in College Station to John Mackovic’s tenure in Austin:
Once upon a time, there were Longhorns who thought former coach John Mackovic’s biggest problem was his aloof, high-society ways. But that wasn’t it. Mackovic was a failure and not the right fit because he got his tail consistently whipped by Barry Switzer and Jackie Sherrill on the recruiting trail and again on Saturdays.
Nice story, too bad it’s completely fictional. Mackovic was the Texas head coach from 1992 – 1997. Barry Switzer was cheating in Norman, Oklahoma from 1973 through 1988, and Jackie Sherrill was cheating in College Station from 1982 to 1988. Don’t worry John, you were only four or five years off.
And in his first three years at Texas, Mackovic was 19 – 14 – 1 compared to Fran’s 16 – 18. He also won a Southwest Conference title and had two second place finishes. The Aggies finished 5th, 4th, and 4th in the Big 12 South. Comparison’s not working out too well there. By the way, Mackovic also won one more Big 12 title than Franchione ever will at Texas A&M.
Nevermind actual facts, keep Fran!
Normally, I would be one of the last people on the planet to stick up for OU, but what happened to them on Saturday should go down as some of the worst calls in the history of college football. And not only was it just one call, there were 3 horrible calls in the span of 1 minute, and two of them were held up by instant replay!
- On the onside kick, an Oregon player clearly touches the ball before it crosses the 10 yard line.
- Oklahoma recovers the onside kick when the ball squirts out of the pile.
- Two plays later an OU defensive lineman tipped a pass, but an OU defensive back was still somehow called for pass interference.
The first two were reviewed by instant replay, and what was their decision? Oregon ball. Seriously, I have no idea what these refs could be thinking. And unlike OU’s game against Texas Tech last year, OU really got screwed on this one.

Not really all that surprising. They may take away his Heisman though.
It is true what they say, “keep your friends close and your enemies closer.” I always like to read what the opposition is saying about our team in order to get a better perspective on the match-up. Here is a list of [tag]Ohio State[/tag] sports blogs that you may want to check out:

Rumor has it that Texas Tech senior and preseason All-American Jarrett Hicks could be in jeopardy of missing the season. Both he and top WR recruit Michael Crabtree are both appealing issues to the NCAA related to academic issues. Hicks has already lost one appeal on his case and Coach Mike Leach didn’t sound to positive about the issue. Both players will likely miss this weekend’s game against SMU. Losing an All-American and another member of the two-deep would obviously be a big problem for Tech’s pass happy offense.
Deadspin brings up a good point. Baby due in November. Leinart spotted leaving Paris Hilton’s in May. Hmm…
Despite going to I-AA, the NCAA should force him to sit out the year.
