The match-up in the Holiday Bowl against California should be a tough one for the Horns. DeSean Jackson is a badass and the Texas secondary has been…
Wait… isn’t Texas playing in the Alamo Bowl versus Iowa? Texas A&M is in the Holiday Bowl, right? Well someone might want to inform Desmond Howard of that:
It actually sounds like Howard did his research on this mythical game between Texas and Cal. He even knew the (relatively) breaking news that Jevan Snead had decided to transfer to Ole Miss. He had all week to prepare for his 30-second segment and he botched it big time. Doh. Brad from the 12th Manchild said that Desmond actually made the same mistake both before the game and then again at halftime, though they might just have reaired the same segment.
Just another in the long list of colossal mistakes by ESPN/ABC in their coverage of sports and college football specifically. I never thought I’d be saying this, but I miss Trev Alberts.
The Wizard of Odds has up some videos and a poll on this year’s worst cheap shots. Right now our good friend Kellen Heard is running away with the voting but the best part is the Aggies defending him and everyone else mocking how stupid they sound.
I voted for Heard but the play by Iowa’s Mitch King where he rips off an Ohio State player’s helmet and then gives him a fist to the face is a very close second:
Go check out the plays and vote for yourself.
Merril Hoge may be the most delusional person that I have ever seen. His hate for Vince Young has been taken to a whole new level today with his latest rant on ESPN. It’s hard to put into words how idiotic he sounds, so just check out the video. There is a transcript of what he said after the jump.
Thanks to TexasOwnzYou from Hornfans for the video.
Our good friend the Wiz has video of Texas A&M’s Kellen Heard’s cheap shot on Colt McCoy near the end of Friday’s game. Heard’s hit was late (McCoy was already unbuckling his chin strap), high, and from behind. Not exactly an unexpected move from a kid who wanted to be a Miami Hurricane but didn’t have the academics to get in.
Man was that an ugly pass, Colt clearly wasn’t 100% and had faded by late in the game. Longhorn fans better hope he’s really full strength by the bowl game.
Brady describes what the USC defense was doing to him Saturday night.
I agree with just about everything he said. That reporter just never got the point.
I was looking for some other Longhorn highlights this morning and stumbled on this profile on UT volleyball and track star Destinee Hooker on YouTube. We don’t do much track or volleyball news here at this site, but it’s clear that Destinee is one of the university’s best athletes and she’s been stellar performer in two sports. Here’s the video from CSTV and CBS:
The Lady Longhorns take on the Aggies tonight on CSTV at 7pm.
I swear, Aggy related videos can be some of the funniest things ever. This is yet another classic, making fun of the 12 men on the field penalty against the Aggy (ironic no?):
The song is called “Eleven Twelve”, and this version is a remix of the Sesame Street “Pinball Song.” Supposedly the vocals are from the Pointer Sisters, and the remix was done by Braces Tower.

What is apparently a very nearsighted Texas Tech fan has created two videos as “evidence” that Texas Tech lost the game to Texas last week because of the officials. The narration is hilarious as the guy has very little grasp on the NCAA rule book and half the things he thinks are penalties are perfectly legal plays. Pretty funny stuff. I like how he says “clearly” every three seconds despite the video rarely backing up what he’s saying. The conspiracy theory at the very end is hilarious.
Obviously not every call was correct but anyone who actually watched the game saw that it was an evenly called game. You could show a replay of every single play in a college football game and find something somewhere. I could make a video of the fact that Texas Tech held on every play or the several times the Texas receivers were hit early, but then I’d be as dumb as this guy. The biggest thing he needs to learns that the fact that the TBS announcers agree with you is usually a sign you’re really wrong. Those guys were terrible all night.
Check out the videos (found thanks to the Wiz) and a few responses from me after the jump. Videos removed by YouTube because they don’t like it when people actually like their site.
So definitely not the same fanfare as we had for the Texas/Ohio State tailgate, but we still had a good time. And as you will see we were definitely looking forward to getting our hands on some corndogs. You can check out the rest of the photos in the gallery.
Update
More photos added to the gallery and a couple celebration videos added after the break…
