The Wizard of Odds has up some videos and a poll on this year’s worst cheap shots. Right now our good friend Kellen Heard is running away with the voting but the best part is the Aggies defending him and everyone else mocking how stupid they sound.

I voted for Heard but the play by Iowa’s Mitch King where he rips off an Ohio State player’s helmet and then gives him a fist to the face is a very close second:

Go check out the plays and vote for yourself.

Our good friend the Wiz has video of Texas A&M’s Kellen Heard’s cheap shot on Colt McCoy near the end of Friday’s game. Heard’s hit was late (McCoy was already unbuckling his chin strap), high, and from behind. Not exactly an unexpected move from a kid who wanted to be a Miami Hurricane but didn’t have the academics to get in.

Man was that an ugly pass, Colt clearly wasn’t 100% and had faded by late in the game. Longhorn fans better hope he’s really full strength by the bowl game.

After the game, it seemed like there were no real incidents and I felt Horns fans showed some class in their loss to the Aggy. Aggy, however, is not showing much class with some of their latest posts on TexAgs.com. What can you really be thinking to post this kind of stuff…

Colt,

Glad to hear you were able to walk out of the hospital on your own yesterday. Just keep rubbing on the ******* and ******* and all will be well.

While you are taking time to recover, I thought you might like some entertainment. I hope you find the following video interesting:

You see, Colt, Kellen Heard didn’t really lay in to you like he could have. Next year, I fully expect him and the rest of the team to give you the ‘Detmer Special.’

You can also use this recovery time to practice your pouty face in the mirror. I know it will come in handy this time next year.

Oh, and tell your grandmother I said hello.

Your pal,

odessan

Ok. Back with some more fun with the Aggy. This time I have included three classic videos, brought to you exclusively by Bevo Sports. No doubt you have seen these, but I am sure you will still get a kick out of them. And don’t forget about Squeeze Aggie.

I did a quick roundtable exchange with Brad from the 12th Manchild to discuss the upcoming game and some of the issues each team has. His responses are below (good stuff). You can check out my answers to his questions here (midway through).

1. No doubt Coach Fran is having a tough year, what are your thoughts on his performance so far this season? Are you ready to start looking for a new coach?

Tough year? no. Tough November? you bet.

It’s too early to legitimately and accurately evaluate this season. On the one hand, the physical condition of the program has vastly improved. The level of talent on both sides of the ball and currently being recruited is the best in years, the controversial decision to hire Darnell proved to be a good one, and Fran is finally winning on the road (undefeated so far this season). On the other hand, Fran continues to squander opportunities and choke in the big games.

Personally, I think Fran has done too well for his own good this season. Aggieland went from having very low expectations to delusions of grandeur in a very short time this season. What has got him in the hot seat again is his inane in-game decision making, the majority of Aggies feel that neither Nebraska nor Oklahoma beat us, rather Fran’s inept playcalling gave the games away.

If the Ags can win in Austin and win convincingly in our bowl game, “CanFran” will revert back to “FranistheMan”. Otherwise, with the hellish schedule next year, Fran could likely be gone by December 2007.

2. The Aggies’ schedule was noticeably soft at the beginning of the year. Do you think this played a part in your loss to Texas Tech? Would you like to play a tougher non-conference schedule to help prepare you better for the regular season?

The loss to Tech can be blamed on multiple things, but a weak non-conf isn’t one of them. Unless you’re putting New Mexico State or Hawaii on your schedule, no non-conference team will prepare your secondary for Texas Tech’s offense. If there is any one thing that can be blamed for the loss to Tech, it could be that we scheduled them as our first conference game of the season. Gimmick offenses are always strong early in the season, but as the season goes on and the tape stacks up, the offense falls because teams are able to pick apart the hidden system (i.e. Tech’s current season). Combine that with a relatively young secondary prone to giving up the big play, and you get an offensive shootout where the winner is the one who has the ball last.

I would certainly like to play a tougher non-conference schedule, but not for reasons of “preparation”. Nobody schedules big programs for preparation purposes anymore, they schedule them because of the way BCS depends on the polls -> hence the way polls depend on “big” non-conference games to reshuffle their pre-season polls.

I’m all for playing DI-AA Citadel again, as long as there’s also a Top 20 team on the schedule with them.

3. The Aggies’ 3 losses this season have only been by a combined 6 points, all at home. What will it take for the Aggies to get over the hump next year and start winning those close battles?

Jorvorskie LaneSome interesting and amusing stories coming from the Aggie message boards after their loss to Oklahoma this weekend. Sounds like Jorvorskie Lane is throwing his weight around (and it sure is a lot of weight) and isn’t happy with the job coach Dennis Franchione is doing. And it sounds like some of the team and most of the fan base agrees with him.

Here’s one of many posts that were quickly deleted by the fascist TexAgs moderators:

AggieSPMT05

I do not know everything that has been discussed on the subject but this alleged situation could not be worse for this team.

For those who have not heard the story, after the game last night, Jorvorskie allegedly threw objects and berated Franchione for not giving him the ball on 3rd and goal from the 2.5 late in the game with the team trailing by 7. Following Lane’s emotional outburst, apparently, another team leader told Franchione that he had lost the respect of Jorvorskie and thus the entire team. Additionally, Lane now faces an impending suspension from Franchione.

Pretty good stuff. If there’s any truth to this than Lane has to be suspended for the next game. Franchione is close to losing that team if they drop the next two games against Nebraska and at Texas, which is very possible. Fran’s call late in the game not to give Lane the ball is pretty baffling, I love to make fun of the guy but he’s an incredible short yardage runner once he gets his weight moving forward. Maybe run the option or give the ball to Michael Goodson to the outside, but a Stephen McGee pass?? Bad call.

I think the unforgivable mistake though was to kick a field goal with only two and a half minutes to go in the game. The Sooners had run all over them during the game, what gave Fran the idea they could stop OU from getting the single first down that would end the game? He’s made a ton of strange coaching decisions this year and this one finally bit him in the ass.

Hopefully this gets much worse and more public, because it should be very entertaining to watch.

I swear, Aggy related videos can be some of the funniest things ever. This is yet another classic, making fun of the 12 men on the field penalty against the Aggy (ironic no?):

The song is called “Eleven Twelve”, and this version is a remix of the Sesame Street “Pinball Song.” Supposedly the vocals are from the Pointer Sisters, and the remix was done by Braces Tower.

Wheaties

For the first time in the history of Wheaties, General Mills is going to feature a rivalry between two college football teams, the Lone Star Showdown with Texas vs. Texas A&M. The Texas Longhorns will be on one side (what should be the front) and the Texas A&M Aggies will be on the other side (the back). Each side will feature an old school looking helment as well as an image of each team’s stadium.

Is it just me or does it seem quite ironic to have “Breakfast of Champions” and Texas A&M in the same graphic? What exactly are they champions of?

You should be able to pick up your box of Wheaties today, so head to the stores get one.

Aggies Getting Their Squeeze On

(click above image to enlarge)

I had always thought some of the Aggie traditions were crazy, but I really have no words to explain what is going on here. Someone told me it is some thing where they bunch together real close in a square and try to protect their dog. Apparently the corp members crowd together at critical times during a game and squeeze their testicles in order to feel the pain of the players and inspire the team. (thanks Mick) Sounds Aggie-rific to me. Maybe they just knew they were going to lose.

And what is the deal with the guy in the front? Is he friends with Aggie basketball legend Chris Walker maybe?
